diy easy drink stirrers

If any of you follow me on Instagram, you know I’m more than a little excited about drinks. Not even just cocktails — a little old thing like a glass of iced tea can cheer me right up somehow. So I’m really not surprising myself here by spending an evening crafting up little ways to glam up my glasses. And even though these are totally for my own enjoyment, I guess I’d use them for entertaining too ;)

You’ll Need:

  • scissors
  • wooden skewers
  • wide decorative tape
  • lettering stamps and an inkpad
  • scrap paper
  • tape or glue
  • embroidery floss or yarn

I whipped up three different kinds of drink stirrers in just a few minutes, and each of them are just as simple as the last. Starting with perhaps the easiest, let’s chat about the flags first. I used this great bit of wide decorative cotton tape and cut a piece about twice the size of the flag I wanted. Peel off the back if need to and lay it sticky side up on your work space. Lay your skewer just off center and fold over one side of the tape. Press down to secure. Now use your scissors to cut an inverse triangle into the edge to create your flag. Stamp your guests’ names, drink labels or sweet messages onto your flags and drink!

Next up, these adorable little parasols: I grabbed a few pages from my collage-making materials and decided on some vintage floral photos. I love how some have another pattern on the underside and others have text! Use whatever paper you like and get creative with the edges if you’re feeling fancy. All you need to do for this one is cut out a circle any size you’d like (I think smaller is sweeter). Then cut a single straight line from one edge just to the center of your circle. Overlap the two cut edges just slightly until you reach your desired umbrella shape. Secure with tape or glue. Poke the end of a skewer through the center of the parasol. Too easy, right?

Finally, these pom pom stirrers look so festive for summer. These might be the most complicated, but they’re still wildly easy and I’m sure many of you are already familiar with making your own pom poms. In fact, it might be much simpler for you to follow along the same video tutorial I did when making these. I used the simple wrap-around-your-fingers method to create quick pom-poms and they turned out great! Instead of leaving the two pieces of yarn to tie with, trim those along with the rest of your yarn. Then, stick the pointed end of your skewer through the pom-pom to secure.

Cheers!
